How many hours are there in a day

The gas giants rotate really fast. Jupiter takes just 10 hours to complete one rotation. Saturn takes 11 hours, Uranus takes 17 hours, and Neptune takes 16 hours. We can look up and down at the numbers and can compare them more easily. To start, make a number line that starts at 0 and goes to the highest number you need to include. You'll see why in a minute. Label the number line so you remember it represents hours. And write what information the graph will have at the top.

Now we can easily see which planet has the longest day, the shortest day, and everything in between. But what do we do about Mercury and Venus? Their days are thousands of hours long. How do we make a graph for those? We make a number line, but instead of numbers 1, 2, 3… we will use 1,, 2,, 3,…. Make a number line that goes all the way up to 6, Along the bottom, write Mercury and Venus.

Above Mercury, mark a dot a little less than halfway between 1, and 2, Sergey Boev. The answer is x 24 and must end with figure 4. Jun 23, PM. Fred Zeb Fudpucker. Besides, how is this trivia? Nobody would remember it for a day after calculating it when calculators are so omni present. Apr 24, PM. Mark Warren. David Colloby, even more simple than that, just 6x4.

Mar 29, PM. Fran Donnelly, all you needed to do was 6x4. Fran Donnelly. George Oliver Prince, a pen and a little piece of paper for me, never use a calculator.

Mar 22, AM. Richard D. Sergey Boev, your comment is the same as mined in re the number 4; however, I consider this question to be basic math rather than trivia. The hands on a clock move in seconds, minutes, and hours, which are all, in some ways, measures of seconds. Now that we know what a second really is— an arbitrary measurement of time used to calculate other, larger units of tim e—we can start thinking about how many it takes to make up all the other time units.

The largest unit after seconds is a minute. There are 60 seconds in one minute. You may already know that there are 60 minutes in an hour, but how many seconds is that? You can do this for really big numbers, too. How many seconds are in a month? Well, the average month is A day is 24 hours, so the average month is But the calculations are simple math—you just need to know the basics! It can be difficult to figure out how many days or weeks are in a month, because months vary in length between 28 and 31 days.

Likewise, you can divide the number of weeks in a year, 52, by the number of months in a year, 12, to get 4. Ready for more big numbers? Check out this guide to how many zeros there are in a billion and beyond!

If you just want to test your calculation skills, these math games are great for fifth graders! Converting seconds to minutes and beyond requires a solid grasp of multiplication—if you need a little help with memorizing your times tables, our multiplication guide will help you out!
